Certificate III in Commercial Cookery is an essential qualification for aspiring chefs who want to work in a commercial kitchen and Certificate IV in Commercial Cookery is an advanced level of qualification that gives learners further understanding of management, finance, marketing and other business areas related to the hospitality industry.

As a chef, you would:

  • Figure out how much you want to order and get the right restaurant meal
  • Follow culinary and restaurant business trends to ensure a positive customer experience
  • Try new dishes that attract customers to your restaurant
  • Communicate with suppliers, manage deliveries, manage kitchen budgets, plan menus
  • Adopt food safety best practices and ensure they are followed by all kitchen staff
  • Check the texture and taste of the food; ensure that appropriate standards are developed and properly delivered before they are delivered to the recipient

Commercial cookery courses range from $7,500 – $14,000 per year

International students cannot study cookery in Australia. Alternatively, you can complete a 24-month apprenticeship as a chef
