The Job Ready Program

Job Ready Program gives applicants the opportunity to demonstrate their skills and job readiness in an Australian workplace, before they apply for migration to Australia.

What is a job ready program?

Trade recognition Australia abbreviated as TRA runs a program called a TRA job ready program that helps to check the capabilities and skill of an international student in an Australian workspace. It’s a skill assessment program for those international students who have completed their degree and want to work in Australia.

The job ready program visa also helps one in applying for permanent skilled visas. Also, this program helps one to gain experience in working a real Australian workplace related to his or her occupation.

Program objective

The Job Ready Program (JRP) is for international student graduates who have studied at and received a completed qualification issued by a Registered Training Organization (RTO). The RTO must be registered under the Commonwealth Register of Institutions and Courses for Overseas Students (CRICOS) to deliver the training.

It is a four‐step employment‐based skills assessment program that provides applicants with the opportunity to demonstrate skills and job readiness in an Australian workplace, relevant to a nominated occupation, before applying for migration in Australia.

The JRP aims to ensure that a skilled worker is well placed to seek employment in their nominated occupation in Australia.

Eligibility

it is imperative that applicants under this program have been the primary visa holder of a Student Visa and have at least 12 months of full work rights available to them to be able to complete the program. This means that if an applicant has previously held a Graduate Visa, they may face difficulties gaining full work rights to be able to complete the program. At Regional Migration Australia we can determine the best long-term strategy for you to achieve your desired Australian Migration Outcome.

How does the program work?

The JRP is a four-step process that takes a minimum of 12 months to complete. Applicants must have at least 12 months of full work rights available to them. Usually after graduating with qualifications at Certificate IV, Diploma or Advanced Diploma level student visa holders will utilize this program while moving onto a Graduate Visa. While on the JRP applicants are required to complete 1725 hours of work along with a workplace assessment to confirm they are conducting the required tasks of someone in their occupation.

Four steps of the job ready program

The first stage of the Job Ready Program is the Provisional Skills Assessment, which verifies that you have completed a recognised Australian qualification relevant to your nominated occupation. This step confirms your identity, qualification, and eligibility to begin skilled employment in Australia.
A successful PSA outcome allows you to apply for the Temporary Graduate Visa (subclass 485) under the Post-Vocational Education Work Stream and start gaining hands-on work experience in your trade. The PSA outcome is valid for three years and must be obtained before moving to the next stage of the program.

After receiving your PSA outcome, you can register for Job Ready Employment. In this stage, you are required to work in paid employment in your nominated occupation or a closely related field within Australia.
You must complete at least 12 months of full-time (or equivalent part-time) work in a TRA-approved workplace under the supervision of a qualified tradesperson.
During this period, you will regularly submit verified employment evidence, pay slips, and progress reports to demonstrate your ongoing work and skill development. This experience helps you build confidence and apply your trade knowledge in real-world settings.

Once you have gained sufficient work experience, you will move to the Workplace Assessment stage. Here, a qualified TRA assessor will evaluate your performance and practical skills at your workplace (or through an approved virtual assessment).
The assessor ensures your competency aligns with Australian industry standards for your trade occupation. This step confirms that you can perform the required duties independently, safely, and to the quality expected in the Australian workforce.

The final stage of the Job Ready Program is the Final Assessment, where TRA reviews all your employment records, workplace assessment results, and verified documentation.
A positive JRFA outcome provides you with a full TRA skills assessment, which is officially recognised for Skilled Migration, Employer-Sponsored, or Permanent Residency visa applications.
Completing the JRP successfully demonstrates that you have met Australia’s professional standards for your trade and are fully job-ready for long-term career opportunities in the country.
